CONSULTANTS' ACKNOWLEDGMENTS

For this project, we are grateful to Director Richard Szal of ILO Manila, IPEC National Program Coordinator Ms. Alcestis A. Mangahas, and Director Chita G. Cilindro of the Bureau of Working Conditions, for believing in the value of this modest contribution, and for making that faith visible to us in many poignant ways.

In writing the adaptation and conducting the actual classroom and field activities, we could not have done without the help of the following:

Mr. Jean-Maurice Derrien, Mr. Robert Heron, and Mr. Guy Thijs of ILO for training Loree, along with others, on the use of the Training Guide in a Bangkok workshop organized for the purpose;
Dra. Elena L. Samonte of the University of the Philippines, and Dra. Dina V. Diaz of the Lung Center of the Philippines, for accepting our invitation to handle sessions in their fields of expertise despite their hectic schedules, and for lending us their transparencies on child development and occupational hazards which we included in this book;
Atty. Emilia C. Anaya, for freely sharing her ideas, insights, and perspectives which were invaluable in helping us understand labour inspection and its context, and the issues and concerns related to the inspectorate and inspectorate training;
Ms. Rosanna M. Tubelonia who, as head of the Secretariat, provided all the necessary administrative and logistical support for running the classroom activities and field monitoring visits;
Our companions in the field visits who provided very useful comments and observations along the way: Atty. Anaya; Ms. Tubelonia; participants and project staff from the Bureau; Mr. Antonio Abucot (Region 2); Ms. Lita Albaira (Region 4); Ms. Carmela Abellar (Region 6); Mr. Potenciano Liguton (Region 7); Ms. Yolanda Mesias (Region 10); and Mr. Vicente Mascardo (Region 11);
Ms. Evangelina Alcantara, Ms. Sylvia Capupus, Ms. Cecilia Ruiz, Mr. Ronald Crucillo, Ms. Emma Angelica Guerrero, Mr. Francisco Saguinsin, and Mr. Florante Valdez of the Project Staff, for taking care of the hundred details which ensured that we had what we needed when we needed them; and
Director Reydeluz D. Conferido of the Institute for Labor Studies, for inspiring the inspectors without romanticizing the issue of child labor, when he handled the session on the Philippine Child Labor Program.

In writing and preparing this document for publication, we cherish the help of:

Ms. Mangahas, for her valuable suggestions on how to make this document the best that it can be; and to Ms. Ma. Lourdes P. Aranzanso, and Ms. Marge Parreñas-Simon of ILO-IPEC Philippines for running sundry coordinating errands, and generally sharing our excitement through the various stages of production; and
Ms. Capupus for proofreading the initial printouts, and Director Cilindro, Atty. Anaya, and Ms. Tubelonia for pointing out a thing or two that we may have missed, mistyped, or misspelled, and for facilitating the printing process.

Above all, we would like to thank the inspectors who participated in the training sessions. All of them were present from start to finish. We were most impressed by their diligence and conscientiousness in accomplishing the numerous assignments we required of them, their seriousness in regarding the training with the same criticality which we ascribed to the project, and their openness and honesty in sharing their thoughts, feelings, and their very selves.
